Today we had decided to be ultra-lazy, and not get in the car at all. After another leisurely breakfast of oatmeal and fried eggs, followed by a bit of relaxing in our room, we walked down to the city centre. We stopped at the post office to mail some postcards, then wandered over to a cute little shop called the Cat and the Moon (named after the poem by Yeats). The store is primarily a jewelry shop – it is owned by Martina Gillan, who designs and makes most of the pieces right there. After much browsing, mom purchased a pendant in the shape of a triskell, modeled after the carvings at Newgrange; I selected a silver pendant in the shape of forget-me-not, with a pearl in the middle. I’ve already come up with a couple more items that I want for Christmas, too! Ms. Gillan was there that day and spent a few minutes talking with us, and even took my mother’s pendant back to her workshop to shorten the chain while we waited.
After tucking our purchases safely away, we stopped in a few other stores and then visited the Yeats Center, where there is a very nice photo exhibit of the life of W. B. Yeats. My mother, who loves literature, recognized many of the other artists pictured right away. After the museum, we stopped for tea and scones at O’Hehirs, spent a few minutes wandering the shopping center, and then decided to take in a movie at the metroplex – Harry Potter! After the movie we made our way back to Tree Tops, had a picnic dinner of cheese and fruit, and settled in early.
